Non-Woven Gauntlets
Avoca’s non-woven gauntlets are suitable for both wet and dry filling operations. Gauntlets are tailor-made to meet the individual requirements industry wide within the pluri-tubular positive plate retainer market.
The process to manufacture non-woven (cartridge-belt type) gauntlets consists of marrying two rolls of polyester non-woven fabric at predetermined pitches with a multi-needle sewing machine, then thermoforming the sewn roll into the desired tube geometry size. The thermoforming procedure consists of inserting forming rods between the 2 layers of sewn gauntlet fabric that pass through a hot oven to enable the forming process of the product to take place.
Non-woven gauntlets are manufactured with 100% polyester high tenacity yarn, therefore, have a reduced mechanical resistance and elasticity, a lower percentage of acrylic resin and a lower rigidity. They are recommended for industrial applications such as traction / semi-traction, flooded, Gel, and also network power application batteries.

Tubes
Gauntlets are available in may tube shapes as illustrated. Gauntlets can be supplied with up to 30 tubes each on request. Many standard sizes are available from stock or on fast turnaround.

Edge Protection
Avoca are specialists in providing this particular method of gauntlet protection against short circuits.
The protection is necessary and recommended when battery manufactures choose to use veneer type separators rather than the conventional sleeves.
Protection of the outer positive plate tubes is made by applying a thin layer of sealant which acts as an insulation.
The insulated surfaces then act as a barrier between the fabric fibres and lead particles which are freely floating within the cells electrolyte.
The dimensions of the edge protection can be adjusted to match your specification.

Technical Characteristics of Avoca Gauntlets
- The nonwoven fabric structure is allow forming but to retain flexibility.
- Fast and easy filling with powder or paste through wet and dry filling.
- Low electrical resistance. Good resistance to electrochemical oxidation.
- Excellent resistance to surface abrasion due to use of high quality raw materials.
- Higher porosity of yarn density designed to achieve very even and minute holes to preserve the active mass and prevent it shedding.
- The gauntlet offers glued edge protection against plate lateral short circuits by partially coating the end tubes. This protection is an efficient and more economical alternative to the sleeve technique.
- Tubes can not only be made as round, but oval, elliptical, rectangular and square.
